Short trek in Annapurna Region Review of Annapurna Mountain Range Reviewed September 15, 2010 I’m just back from my second trip to Nepal this year, I go out to do some training for farmers but if I’m lucky can get some time to myself. August was monsoon time and generally not recommended for trekking (you can’t see the mountains for cloud anyway), but March was great and I did a 3 day trek in the Annapurna Region. Based in Pokhara, “Thamel by a lake”, with its good hotels and food, we started out from Nayapul and trekked clockwise to Birethani, Ghandruk, Potana, Dhampus and finally Phedi. There was some rain but short and sharp, I preferred to shelter in one of the frequent tea houses along the way rather than wear hot sweaty waterproofs. Light trekking shoes were fine rather than heavy boots – but make sure they have good quality soles with grips as the rocks on the paths can be treacherous when wet. I took a 35l backpack with 8kg weight, including a 0.9kg sleeping bag (ultralight and compact, from Tesco UK, excellent quality and price, GBP35). The scenery was, well, amazing as you might expect. Waking up in Ghandruk village and seeing the Annapurna range, across the pristine meadows and in silence was unforgettable. I do a fair bit of hill walking in Scotland but I found the trekking in Nepal more strenuous, the ascents and descents were more frequent and steeper, at least on the trek that I did. Also, I was unfit after all work and no play before I left the UK. If you haven’t been trekking in Nepal before, I wouldn’t recommend it first time without a guide as the routes are mostly not signposted, maps not detailed enough and taking a wrong turn is costly in time and energy. My guide was Ram Shrestha of Splendid High Adventure, Thamel, Kathmandu (http://splendidhighadventure.com/index), who was recommended by a friend in Nepal. Ram organized everything, from airport pickup, accommodation in Pokhara and en route, and was my attentive guide on the trail. We trekked for ten days with Anapurna Base Camp as Highest destination. We had fabulous weather, and the scenery views were fabulous. We really enjoyed being ‘on top of the world at ABC despite the col.
We had a marvelous experience with Splendid Never and because it was only the two of us the trek was thirsted pretty much to on specification which was great.

Annapurna Circuit Trekking

I loved my time in Nepal and want to thank Bishwa Raj Ghale at Splendid High Adventure Pvt Ltd, DB Gurung (my guide) and Jivan! Back in Kathmandu after 13 days trekking up (up, up…) from Syange (1,119m) to cross the Thorong La Pass at 5,400m then descend to Pokhara (822m). At times it was hard work(!) but against the backdrop of the Annapurnas, which are forever towering at ~8,000m it was worth it.
We passed through countless villages, climates, landscapes and tea houses along the way – which were always welcoming and unique. Apart from adventure (and a solid workout at high altitude), the mountains and Nepalese people lift the mind and spirit.
A very splendid adventure!

From the very first contact with splendid high adventure until the consultation of our trip, you displayed the utmost courtesy and professionalism. we had the greatest adventure (Everest Base camp. We have taken three trips with Splendid High Adventures: Everest base camp We took this great 17 day adventure in 2008, in combination with the Everest Base Camp trek, with Splendid High Adventures, a Nepalese outfitter based in Kathmandu. I cannot say enough positive about this outstanding firm and their dedicated employees (Ram and Bishwa). They are the best and we booked a separate trip with them to climb Mera Peak (6480m) this year (Nov. 2011)and received similar outstanding service ; climbing Mera Peak and climbing Island Peak. They arranged everything, including all porters, meals, camping and/or tea houses on treks and lodging while in Kathmandu. Bishwa and Ram are the best! Very experienced, competent, and reasonable. I can’t recommend them more highly.

The high light of our trip was. Our trek from Jomsom-Kagbeni -Ghorpani- pokhara, which took 8 days.
